LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
My understanding of leadership has evolved over time.
In high school, I thought all leaders had to be good at public speaking and be able to speak in front of many people. I wasn’t the best public speaker, and I didn’t enjoy talking in front of many people, so I didn’t consider myself to be a leader. I was not a member of my high school’s Athletic Student Body (ASB), nor was I voted to be an officer for a club. These are things which I thought all leaders were. I thought leadership was a hierarchy, and those at the top had the most leadership experience. I was wrong.
My first two years studying at the University of Washington has truly made me understand what leadership is. Taking on an active leadership role is not the only thing that makes one a leader. Leaders come from many backgrounds, have different life experiences, and have unique stories to tell. Leadership is not defined by one’s ability to speak, but by the impact one has on the world.

Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It's about one life influencing another.” – John C. Maxwell
